Don't look at the waves!

Last month my two boys and I visited my aunt and uncle in Florida. It was the first time the boys had seen the ocean in person. They of course LOVED it. The waves were always "tricking" them they said. They looked so big coming at them far out to sea, but when they actually crashed into them on the beach the water only came to their knees. The ocean hold so many wonders, we were amazed at the changes in the tides, we found all kinds of treasures: shells and other's lost personal items that washed up on shore early in the mornings. I simply could not visit the beach without thinking about God's magnificent creation and interaction in our lives. With that in mind here is a snapshot into our lives this week, something that meant a lot to me and I hope it will mean a lot to you too!

We have begun doing family devotions at breakfast 3 days a week. We found the neatest "bird book" as the boys call it (due to the blue bird on the cover) at the bookstore to help us out. It's actual title is Jesus Calling, 365 devotions for kids (by Sarah Young), but let me tell you this little book packs a big punch in my daily walk with God. So far this year there has not been a single day that I walked away after reading this without thinking "WOW, now that was REAL and GOOD".

This devotion is written from Jesus perspective, so each day it is like Jesus talking to you, helping give you some hints and tips for making it through life the best way possible.

So here is one example of a devotion this week that just hit home with me. I have never thought about God working in this way, so sit back and keep reading with me.

Problems are all around you, like the waves in the ocean. But don't look at the waves. Look at ME and I will keep you safe. If you look only at the waves, the problems in life, you will sink in an ocean of worry and fear. Don't be afraid. Simply call out, "Help me Jesus!" and I will lift you up, just like I did Peter.

I know that you sometimes worry about what is ahead. The future can be frightening, like gigantic waves just waiting to crash down on you. Trust in ME. I already know the future. By the time those gigantic waves get to you, I will have shrunk them down to a size you can face. And I am always beside you, helping you. The closer you are to ME, the safer you will be.

I honestly had never even thought about God taking the huge waves that I see in the future and shrinking them down to a size I can handle by the time they get to me. That is a beautiful picture. Truly, time and time again, I have seen God do just that in my life. I am happy now to have a way to explain it to myself, my boys and others who face huge waves in their lives.

I hope you all have a blessed week and whatever waves are in your life now or in the future, I pray you will hold tight to Jesus and let Him lift you up. Go ahead and THANK HIM in advance for shrinking those waves that you see towering over you right now. He will do it! Just ask Him to, and wait expecting Him to do just what He said He will do!
Love
Julie
