Back to the Farm

Hello Farm Friends,

What a lovely week the boys and I had with my Mom in town from Colorado. We rode the Music City Queen, (which I highly recommend even if you are from Nashville!), we had lots of retail therapy (aka shopping), and spent lots of time at the pool (mostly indoor, rain ya know!), watching movies and just relaxing and being together having fun. It has been one of the best weeks of my life for sure!

It is nice to be home too and have things put back where they belong (sort of). It appears lots has been happening while we were away. First off, one of our cows, Banjo, had a baby girl (yeah!!!). Secondly, on the very same day, Red, one of our best beef cows had a baby boy. Not just any baby boy mind you, this is a descendent of Scottish Royalty! Jim studied up and purchased some "bull juice" from this really great bull from Scotland. This is the daddy to Red's baby boy, our future herd bull! For the first time in my memory the dairy cow had a girl and the beef cow had a boy...just like we had hoped and prayed for! Jim apparently worked extra hard on a surprise this week...when I pulled up into the driveway a beautiful grape trellis greeted me. The birds seem to love it and the grapes have been retrained to grow up the new structure. What a great surprise, I cannot wait to see those grapevines cover it up!

The hoophouses are all covered up and the crew is finished with their portion of the job. Now it is up to us to zip them up and get them planted--for that reason we will NOT be at the Franklin Farmers' Market next Saturday, we will be at home building sidewalls and getting plants in the ground!

I hope each of you have a great week!
Julie
