Mid-winter ponderings

Hello Farm Friends,

Greetings once again from snowy Eagleville,

I have seen more snow this winter than perhaps in my previous twelve here on the Glade combined! All is well here on the farm. The ewes are growing bigger and bigger! The babies are about a month away now and we are preparing for them. Right now the ewes get a bale of alfalfa hay each morning in the barn. This gives us a chance to see all the girls and make sure everyone is feeling well, getting around well and eating some good quality hay to keep up their health. Kind of like those weekly doctor visits during humans last month of gestation. The ewes are one of my favorite things on the farm. It was not always so, but these girls are a comfort. They just do their thing so peacefully each day. They are a reminder to me to slow down!

Everything else on the farm is holding its own. This time of the year there is not much growing except in the little greenhouse where it is warm. Last week, Kels and I transplanted all the little tomatoes into larger trays. They will be the early hoophouse tomatoes and are about a month or so away from getting their roots in the ground, provided the sun decides to shine again and warm the earth!

This time of the year seems to be a struggle for me. So many plans for growing, yet not much action being taken towards that end. It is all getting pent up, held back for that big spring blowout, SPRING RUSH they call it when everything needs doing at the same time and so much is growing so fast you can hardly stay on top of it all. A feeling of bounty and abundance to replace today's late winter feeling of lack.

Stay warm and love each other!
Julie

Stones River Market, Murfreesboro fresh food option
We are proud to be members of the Stones River Market, a member of locallygrown.net. This is a great advancement for farmers allowing customers to become members of an "online" market, choosing products from many area farmers, but picking up their orders in one location, with one bill and your food all ready to go! Please visit . Stones River Market Locally Grown to see this week's list of available items. Orders can be placed Sunday-Tuesday (you get an email telling you the market is open after you sign up!) Delivery in Murfreesboro is in the downtown area around Cannonsburg (where the old Farmers Market used to be). For more information, please visit the website and contact the market manager!

On-line Farm Market
We anticipate being able to open the On-line Market around the first of March, or when the sun shines again, whichever comes first!

Franklin Farmers Market
The Winter Market is open! Hours are 9-12 each Saturday. Our plans are to be there every other week during the winter months. We will be at the market this Saturday, February 20th from 9-12. This week we will not be accepting pre-orders for the market. We will have lettuces, choi, onions and a few other items available for sale at the market this weekend.
