Help is on the way!

Hello Farm Friends,

Thanks to all who attended our Farm and Family Day last Sunday. As it turned out Sunday was very pleasant!

Won't you be bored? I cringe when I hear Jim ask me that question because it means something unexplainable, or something new of which I have no backup experience has occurred. For us this year it is the berries. When to pick? How long will they hold? What is wrong with that one? Will the downpours expected this weekend wipe them out? So, we are on a berry learning curve this spring and we appreciate your patience with us!

This week many new veggies went into the ground including field tomatoes, okra, more squash, beans and purple hull peas. The hoophouses can expect cucumbers, peppers and basil this coming week. Speaking of this coming week, MTSU has finals this week and why is that important to us? Well it means we will get Kels full time and another young lady named Caitlin to help us out this summer. And just in time too, the work load has really picked up! I am sure you will hear lots more about our adventures this summer on the farm with these two young ladies!

Have a super week!
Julie

UPDATE ON S510 Food Safety and Modernization Act
I called a few people who know Washington much better than I do and it appears this bill is a priority for the Senate, but it keeps falling behind several BIGGER problems like Healthcare and now The Financial Reform Bill. They hope to be able to take up the bill by Memorial Day. It would not bother me at all if they are unable to! Thanks for your support and for calling the Senators. It is very important to us small farms that the Senators hear our voices that we are not the same as corporate agriculture and do not need to be treated the same way. Thank you for voicing your support of the Tester amendment to our Tn Senators.

Stones River Market, Murfreesboro fresh food option
We are proud to be members of the Stones River Market, a member of locallygrown.net. This is a great advancement for farmers allowing customers to become members of an "online" market, choosing products from many area farmers, but picking up their orders in one location, with one bill and your food all ready to go! Please visit . Stones River Market Locally Grown to see this week's list of available items. Orders can be placed Sunday-Tuesday (you get an email telling you the market is open after you sign up!) Delivery in Murfreesboro is in the downtown area around Cannonsburg/Hoopers Supply. For more information please visit the website and contact the market manager!
