Heat Wave!

Hello Farm Friends,

We can definitely feel the change of seasons here on the farm BUT it is NOT through the temperatures! Mostly we can sense that the summer crops are fading and telling us they are finished producing top quality fruit. I think I heard them say something about feeling like they were running a fever. Yes it has been very hot and yes that is very hard on the plants especially with as little rain as we have received the past month or so.

Our greenhouse is full to the seams with fall crops ready for transplanting, but we are a bit hesitant to throw them to the wolves out there in the wide open field to be prematurely baked, so we are holding off on any kind of planting until the weather moderates and/or we get a good rain.

So it feels like we are slowing down, but still so much yet to do. We stay busy ordering fall seed, planting fall crops, learning new skills, and planning for new building projects on the farm. Thankfully most of that can be done inside! We have swapped our outdoor working hours to 6 am-11 or 12, after that it is just too hot for heavy physical labor in the full sun, especially with the boys in tow.

So, please enjoy and say thank you to the crops we are able to bring to the market. They are doing an outstanding job of going above the call of duty and continuing to set fruit and produce for us. Thank you, Thank you veggies!

This week the On-Farm Market reopens. Thanks for your patience there!

Thanks also to all of our 2010 Summer CSA customers. It was a pleasure growing for you. We sure hope you enjoyed your ten weeks of summer veggies!

DON"T FORGET about the Tuesday Franklin Farmers Market from 3-6:30. There are lots of great farms with lots of good food, breads, jams, berries, milk, meat and veggies. The bonus feature is there is plenty of parking (close)!

Have a great week and try to stay cool
Love,
Julie
