November News!

Hello Farm Friends,

It has been a long time since I have rolled out a full blown newsletter and I apologize, there simply has not been enough time with farm and non-farm happenings taking up all available free time!

We are here and good and all the winter crops are in and tucked in and I am proud to say survived the first cold snap of the season. The top plastic cover on one of our hoophouses has been replaced after some severe wind ripped it. It is good to have farm friends, those friends who don't mind getting up before the chickens because they are used to always getting up before the chickens. Thanks Tony, Doug and Kelley!

I have posted lots of photos so you can see what we have been up to like planting lots and lots of garlic. This year we purchased several new varieties to try out. We have marked them and made notes and hopefully we will be able to tell them apart at harvest. I am still not sure we will be able to pronounce their names at harvest, but we have all winter to work on that!

The bees surprised me yesterday as I scouted the outside crops for frost damage. They were busy, buzzing around some of the broccoli raab that has flowered. It was so good to see them. In the winter they mostly keep to themselves and you don't see them working so hard, you rarely even see them on their "porch" unless it is a very sunny and calm day. I told them I was thankful for them and I would try not to worry about them this winter. They have plenty of honey stores, but that does not guarantee they will make it. It takes a lot of faith to be a beekeeper!

I would like to let you know our winter schedule. This year we have three ways to serve you.
First, we will take orders via our online market page Monday through Wednesday of each week with pickup at the farm in Eagleville on Thursday from 3-6 pm. Please visit our Rocky Glade Farm ON-line Market to see what is available and place your order.

We will also continue to service Murfreesboro/Nashville via the Stones River Online Market
Stones River Market, Murfreesboro fresh food option
We are proud to be members of the Stones River Market, a member of locallygrown.net. This is a great advancement for farmers allowing customers to become members of an "online" market, choosing products from many area farmers, but picking up their orders in one location, with one bill and your food all ready to go! Please visit . Stones River Market Locally Grown to see this week's list of available items. Orders can be placed Sunday-Tuesday (you get an email telling you the market is open after you sign up!) Delivery in Murfreesboro is in the downtown area around Cannonsburg/Hoopers Supply. For more information please visit the website and contact the market manager!

And we will be attending the Franklin Farmers Market each Saturday during the winter, bringing you the best local winter veggies around!

Franklin Farmers Market
The Franklin Farmers Market is open for the WINTER season. Hours of operation are 9-12 each Saturday.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner. The boys and I will be finding our Thankful Tree this week. It is one of my favorite activities of the year to do with them. May you have a blessed and wonderful November and Thanksgiving season.
