August 2013

Hello Farm Friends,

Summer is winding down. We have just a few more tomato and pepper plants producing here on the farm, otherwise we are onto all things fall and winterish around here. Honestly it is amazing how far in advance you have to think about season changes in order to be ready with the next crops for the upcoming season. Tomato seeds are sown in January and for the fall our winter squash and brassica plants were started in May/June.

We have survived another summer with everyone and everything intact and we are very thankful! Thanks for doing your part and buying from us this summer!

September is a time of change for us on the farm. It is our month of transition, possibly more than any other month of the year. We completely change from summer growing to fall and winter mode. For us that looks like: getting the garlic planted, working up fields that were in summer vegetable production and either turning them for fall production or putting them into winter cover crops, harvesting winter squash, sweet potatoes, and regular potatoes for fall, welcoming new baby calves to the farm, selling sheep, starting our fall seeds every other week in the greenhouse, Planting fall pasture crops, cleaning up summer equipment and getting it into winter storage mode and planting strawberries for next spring. That is a LOT to get done in a matter of 3 weeks! For this reason, we will NOT be at the Franklin Market for most of the month of September, but when we do return we will have some yummy fall crops ready for you to enjoy!

Several upcoming things to mention in this newsletter, our winter csa and lamb.

First the Winter CSA
We are currently signing up new customers for our winter CSA! Our winter CSA is actually our customers favorite CSA of the year. Check out the side notes of the CSA information page to read some of our customer family comments!

We will begin our Winter CSA middle of October and finish it up in May of 2014. Pickup of boxes are EVERY OTHER week for our winter CSA. We have pickup locations in Murfreesboro, Franklin and here on the Farm. For complete details such as what we grow, cost, dates and amounts of produce
please visit Rocky Glade Farm Winter CSA Information. If you have any questions or want to reserve your space please send us an email!

2013-2014 Lamb Availability
We are offering our whole lambs for sale. We will take the lambs to the processor in January of 2014, but now is the time to speak up and get on the list if you want one!

IF you are interested in purchasing a whole lamb, please visit Lamb Information Page for more details. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email!

We have several ways you can get our produce during the Fall and Winter months. The Franklin Farmers Market on Saturdays, Stones River On-line Market, and Pa Bunks Grocery

The Franklin Farmers Market is now open for the Summer Market. Summer hours are 8-1 each Saturday all summer long. Winter hours begin in November 9-12.

Stones River Market is open for orders each Sunday through Tuesday with orders delivered to Murfreesboro on Wednesdays. This is a wonderful "market" for Murfreesboro where you can order from the comfort of your computer from many different farms, bakeries, etc and pickup in one location, just off the square in downtown Murfreesboro. For more information please visit Stones River Online Market.

Pa Bunks is now carrying Rocky Glade Produce in downtown Murfreesboro! For those of you who don't know Pa Bunks, it is quite cool! Corey Williams who owns it is one of the nicest folks you could ever hope to meet. He has a great variety of organic and natural products in his store including fresh produce, canned goods, ready to eat items, fresh locally made breads as well as sandwiches, fresh coffee and other drinks. If you are in the downtown area and need a break, go by Pa Bunks, grab a sandwich and drink and relax at Bunks! For more info visit Pa Bunks Organic Market.
