2013 October

Hello Farm Friends,

Whew! Lots done, still more to do, but we are feeling good about the shape our farm is headed for the winter months. September was a flurry of planting, working beds, shaping beds, amending beds and more planting. We harvested a bit of winter squash as well. Bugs have been really bad this year, especially on the squash type plants, so not as much winter squash as we had last year. Our fall crop of potatoes was quite the surprise. We have never planted fall potatoes before, so this was something totally new for us. So much fun to see the potatoes thrive and it seemed like we had less Colorado Potato Beetle damage with the fall ones as well. That is certainly an added bonus! All colors of the rainbow potato wise are being harvested, check out our colors at your next Farmers Market visit. Things are good here, we have our "team" of winter CSAers assembled and ready to begin this month. Winter is one of our favorite growing seasons. It is beautiful to see the nice shapely rows of things growing in the hoophouses. Always a treat to see green in the middle of gray/brown January and of course winter means fresh brussel sprouts. It doesn't get much better than that!

We are back at the Franklin Farmers Market on the 12th of October and will be there through the winter months each Saturday. We are in our same booth location as we were in the summer located middle aisle endcap at the opposite end of the market shed from Liberty Pike. Crops for October include our Purple Sun Potatoes, Red and Gold Potatoes, Sweet Potatoes, Radishes, Hakurei Turnips, Asian Greens, Lettuce, Spinach, Kale, Chard, Herbs, Garlic and more...

We have several ways you can get our produce during the Fall and Winter months. The Franklin Farmers Market on Saturdays, Stones River On-line Market, and Pa Bunks Grocery

The Franklin Farmers Market is now open for the Summer Market. Summer hours are 8-1 each Saturday all summer long. Winter hours begin in November 9-12.

Stones River Market is open for orders each Sunday through Tuesday with orders delivered to Murfreesboro on Wednesdays. This is a wonderful "market" for Murfreesboro where you can order from the comfort of your computer from many different farms, bakeries, etc and pickup in one location, just off the square in downtown Murfreesboro. For more information please visit Stones River Online Market.

Pa Bunks is now carrying Rocky Glade Produce in downtown Murfreesboro! For those of you who don't know Pa Bunks, it is quite cool! Corey Williams who owns it is one of the nicest folks you could ever hope to meet. He has a great variety of organic and natural products in his store including fresh produce, canned goods, ready to eat items, fresh locally made breads as well as sandwiches, fresh coffee and other drinks. If you are in the downtown area and need a break, go by Pa Bunks, grab a sandwich and drink and relax at Bunks! For more info visit Pa Bunks Organic Market.
