August 2014 Newsletter

Hello Farm Friends!

Well, August is here and back to school time already! Goodness the summer goes fast. Why does winter seem to D-R-A-G along but the summertime flies by? Must be the sunshine! Indeed the end of summer is upon us and fall will be here before we know it. It has been a good summer here on the Glade. We have cared for things that really needed attention, repositioned the farm (seriously folks it is not easy to change the direction of your rows around here!) and feel like we are in good shape heading into fall.

This summer found us harvesting honey from some bees who really showed off! Beautiful honey, yummy honey and a good quantity of it too. We were very happy with our girls this year. Dylem and Caleb are happy with their girls too. Their laying hens are doing an awesome job laying big beautiful healthy eggs. Some of them are double yolkers which are pretty fun to crack open around here! Dylem has been helping Charlie at Hatcher Dairy this summer while we are away from the market. He has LOVED every minute of it! Milk sales are so much cooler than vegetables I am often told!

It is time to gear up for fall and with that comes our signup season for our Winter CSA. Our winter season goes from October until May, every other week. We have pickup options for the farm in Eagleville as well at the Franklin Farmers Market. The season offers a wide variety of vegetables from tomatoes and peppers to begin with, sweet potatoes and winter squash, garlic, honey, lettuces, all kinds of cold hardy greens like kale and chard and then we round off the season with strawberries in April/May. If this sounds like something you are interested in, please visit Winter CSA Info.

We anticipate being back at the Franklin Farmers Market in mid-September. We hope to have sweet potatoes dug, bees checked again, potatoes dug and a few more things under our belts before we get back to the market. We can't wait to see you! This summer has taught me one thing (well it has taught me LOTS of things, but---) the encouragement and feedback we get from YOU our wonderful customer/friends is what keeps us going physically and mentally. I have missed keeping up with you and your lives and hearing how you cooked our veggies in a new dish. I have realized how very important it is to have "cheerleaders" in life. Thank you so much for ALL of your support to our family and our farm. You are the world's best customers and we are so very thankful and appreciative of you! We will see you soon--In September!

Have you heard??

Would you like to be able to pre-order for the market? Sign up for the RGF Franklin News HERE. on the lower left hand side of our homepage and each time we bring goodies to the market, you will know ahead of time what is "growing on" and "get it before you get there".

We have several ways you can get our produce during the fall months. The Franklin Farmers Market on Saturdays, and Stones River On-line Market

The Franklin Farmers Market is now open for the Summer Market. Hours are 8-1. Hours will stay the same until December when they change to 9-12.

Stones River Market is open for orders each Sunday through Tuesday with orders delivered to Murfreesboro on Wednesdays. This is a wonderful "market" for Murfreesboro where you can order from the comfort of your computer from many different farms, bakeries, etc and pickup in one location, just off the square in downtown Murfreesboro. For more information please visit Stones River Online Market.
