A welcome Fall after a dry Summer

Hello Farm Friends,

Looks like Fall and Winter will soon be here with expected temperatures in the 50s and 30s. I guess it is about time as it seems it has been extremely hot this summer! What a challenge to grow food without water. The good thing about times like we have experienced this past year is it makes you realize what will and will not work in extreme weather and also helps you in some ways to be a better farmer. Extreme conditions make you plan ahead and be smarter about how you spend your money, time and most importantly water from the well! This is our second really dry summer and hopefully those Ninos and Ninas will get themselves straightened out and send us at least a bit more water next summer!

In the picture of the week Dylem shows you the bottom of the pond...I have lived here for 9 years and never seen it this dry. Jim says it got this dry sometime in the 80s. Dylem loved playing on the bottom of the pond and exploring and finding muscle shells and other kinds of critters...that was our silver lining to the pond being dry. IN the other photo you can see what one good rain did for the pond...it almost covered the bottom up!

The Franklin Farmers' Market will be open until the 17th of November from 8am until 12pm...don't miss your last chance to stock up on great fall veggies!

Hope you have a wonderful week and a great beginning to November!
